City of McKinney TX water heater requirements
Effective September 2007, the Texas State Legislature enacted into the Plumbing License Law additional wording to specifically include water heaters in their list of plumbing fixtures, required by law, to have a plumbing permit issued prior to installation. In addition, the law provides that such installations be done according to current codes by a McKinney TX licensed master plumber and inspected by a licensed plumbing inspector.
The following water heater installation requirements are for replacement water heaters only.
The City of McKinney Texas follows 2012 International Codes (IPC, IRC, IFC).
All natural gas water heaters are required to have a sediment trap installed on the gas line at the water heater which is required by all water heater manufacturers and 2012 IFC.
A drip pan is required on all water heaters except if located in the garage.
A thermal expansion tank is required if water system is on a closed loop system.
An electric quick disconnect is required if main electric panel is not within 50 foot of the water heater.
