Not enough hot water or no hot water in Garland Tx- Garland Plumber
No Hot water or not enough hot water is an inconvenience, to say the least. There are several reasons that could be causing the problem.
No hot water is typically easy to diagnose and may need just a simple repair. Depending on the age it may be to your advantage to replace the water heater. Take our water heater test to help determine if you should repair or replace your water heater.
The main reason for not enough hot water is unrealistic expectations.
Cold weather is generally a time that people begin noticing less hot water or cooler water temperatures from their water heater. Once again, expectations are a factor because people tend to use more hot water when the weather is colder for longer hot showers. Another reason can be that the cold water temperature gets colder in the winter and tends to make the hot water temperature drop. The only true way to determine the performance of your water heater is to measure the amount of hot water that the water heater is producing.
Usage
Test your shower head by using a 5 gallon bucket. Turn on your shower head for one minute. If you get more than 2.5 gallons of water out of your shower in one minute, your hot water will go extremely fast. I have seen shower heads put out up to 10 gallons of water per minute, which will empty an entire 40 gallon water heater tank in four minutes. If your shower head output is over 2.5 gallons per minute, you may want to considering changing out the shower head to reduce the hot water usage.
Diptube
If the dip tube which allows cold water into the water heater tank is broken this could be causing less hot water. Your dip tube may need replaced. If the water heater is 10 years of age or older you may want to replace the water heater.
Distance
Some people feel they have to wait an eternity before hot water starts coming out of their shower head. If your water heater is on one end of the house and your shower is on the other end, the water in the piping has cooled off since it was last used. The solution to the distance problem is to add a recirculation pump to keep hot water circulation in the piping all the time. You may want to contact our licensed plumbers to discuss whether a recirculation pump is a good option for you.
